Last quarter, our project was about the Rose-Ringed Parakeet, so I go a lot of b-roll of the parakeets. I never used repeating shots in my project, but because some of the shots looked similar, some people thought that I did. So the first thing that I need to improve on is to film a variety of different shots. I also need to improve the quality of my b-roll shots. Some of my shots were out of focus and a lot of them were a little dark, because the birds came out around dusk.
Our video was also way too long. I often make my quarter project too long because I just want to cram as much information as I can into my video. You get your grade docked a little bit if your video is too long, so keeping it under three minutes is kind of important. It is not easy to shorten your video and it takes a lot of time, which I did not have very much of because our final interview was filmed the day before the entire project was due.
Something that I would like to learn is how to make an opening. Because the announcements are different this year, we have to make new openings. I have to learn soon because I signed up for the Halloween opening, which has to be done soon because Halloween is just around the corner. I probably just go ask Kaden, another student in the class. He already made his and it looked pretty cool.
There are a few things that I would like to improve on or learn how to do in general. These include shooting better b-roll, making the video meet the time limit, and learning how to make an opening. If I improve these things, then this quarter can be a lot better than the last one.
