Recently, everybody in our school who got their permission slip signed received an eckms account. It is a Google account especially made for school purposes. So far, Mr. M has already shared several files with the entire class. My reading teacher also has made our final a story that we have to write on Google Docs. Because it is on Google Docs, when one student in the class makes a change on the radio information that Mr. M shared with us, everyone can see it, and you don’t even have to be physically there to do work.
Most people have dealt with stress before, especially if you are in the Media Productions class. Because of the loads of stress from this class, I have developed my own strategies for dealing with stress. These methods include sleeping, showering, and doing something that takes little brainpower.
Sleeping is my favorite way of dealing with stress. It feels so good to let everything go and just drift to sleep. It is also really easy to do, and pretty much everybody can. People also don't mind of you go to sleep, just make sure it is at the correct time and place. Sleeping also keeps you healthy, so it's a double whammy.
My second favorite method of relieving stress is to shower. This relieves stress because it is so relaxing to take a semi-warm shower when you get really tense. This also increases personal hygiene, so it also has multiple advantages. The only problem is that it wastes valuable fresh water. Because of this, I would not recommend you take long showers. Try and limit them to less than seven minutes.
The final way that I like to relieve stress is by engaging in an activity that does not require you to think. You can just relax and be entertained. I am specifically talking about watching movies and TV, but it works with a lot of other things. This has a huge downside though. You are probably stressed because something is due, and the last thing that you should be doing is wasting time trying to relieve stress when you could just be working, so this is the least recommended way of stress relief.
These are the ways that I like to get rid of stress. Sleeping, showering, and doing things that you don't have to think about. They all have pros and some have cons, but they all seem to get the job done for me. I hope that these may help you when you start to get stressed.
Over the summer, most of the media groups in the state of Hawaii got together for their annual Media Camp. Over the one week that we were there, we did a lot of activities to help us. The beginners and the advanced students did different things, so if you were in the returnee group, then you didn't do a lot of things that the beginning students did. All the activities were run off a website.
This website had a huge amount of slideshows and small projects that could take your video leagues ahead. I personally went back after the week was over and looked at a lot of the stuff that I didn't do. It many interesting videos and activities that don't take much time to do, so if you ever have a little extra time on your hands, you should go check it out. Here's the link!
Our project is a little behind, we were supposed to have our script finalized already, but it is not. We also want at least one more interview. I do think that we will finish on time.
Yesterday, we were supposed to have been finished filming and starting to edit. We have not finished filming nor have we gotten our scripts approved. This is because we changed our topic twice, and we got a late start to shooting interviews. We have submitted our first draft of our scripts; and we are making the corrections and then re-submitting them.
We would also like to get another interview. As of now, our project only has two interviews. This is usually too small a number and it makes a story more convincing the more people you have talking about it because you get multiple perspectives. This is why we are working really hard to get in contact with another person to interview.
I do think that we will finish on time. We already have submitted a first draft for our script. The corrections are almost done, and we will turn it in again. Finding another interview has been difficult, but we will continue to work hard to get it done. We have already started editing so that when we do get our scripts approved, we will have a head start.
Our project may be a little behind because the scripts have some work to do and we are trying to get another interview, but we WILL get it done on time.
In my intro to computing class, we went over what visual story telling was. We watched a great presentation. It was all about how to tell a good story with shot composition. I had never seen the presentation before and that seemed odd because it was taken from the Hawaii Creative Media website. I guess you were supposed to watch it when you joined media at the beginners camp, but I was off island and unable to attend. I suggest you look at it even if you already have because using these techniques can greatly benefit your video. You can check it out here.
Dear Uncle Toyo and the Murayama Ohana,
Thank you very much for your generous donation of the Macbook Pros to us this year. The laptops will be very helpful because now you can work at home to get your projects done faster, you can use a laptop every quarter, and it now has Final Cut Pro X.
Because everybody in the class has a laptop, we can take it home to work on our projects. It was hard to get your editing done on time if you didn't have a laptop because you could only work on your project during school hours. This was the result of only being able to use the desktops at school. The desktops were great, you just couldn't work on your project on long weekends or after school, which was when I liked to work on them the most.
Another effect of everybody having a laptop is that you don't need to share the laptops. It was all by luck that you got a laptop. You'd be guaranteed to get the laptop once, but that was it. All the rest of the time, getting a laptop was by sheer luck. If you were really unlucky, you would get the laptop in first quarter and have to use a desktop the rest of the year, which as I previously stated, made it a lot harder. If you can take the laptop home, you can work on your project longer, so you would have a better project.
The new laptops also have Final Cut Pro X, which is fantastic. Final Cut Pro Seven was great, Final Cut Pro X just has new features that are leagues above it. The two main features are the auto-rendering and auto-saving. Auto-rendering is great because some times, it takes an hour for the video to render. For it to render, you used to have to stop working on it, but because of the new feature, it now renders without you having to stop, which can save a lot of time. Auto-save is also good because the computer some times crashes before you can save or you forget to save. Now with Final Cut Pro X, you don't have to worry about either of those things.
Thank you very much for your immensely generous donation. It will be a great help this year. It will help with getting projects done, and you get a laptop every quarter. It's also great that they have Final Cut Pro X on them. Thank you very much.
At the HCM Camp, I learned something really cool that you could do with Google Docs. You can download files from Google Docs onto Word. This is really helpful if you are in a rush and you are going somewhere without wi-fi but you need to see your script. To download the file as a Word Document, go to File-Download As-Microsoft Word as illustrated below.
After you download it, simply open Word, press Command O and select the file. With this, you no longer need wi-fi to view your script and edit. This was especially helpful during the Advanced Camp when we were on a long car drive and we were trying to get work done without wi-fi. Because we downloaded the file before we left, we got about an hours worth of work done during a period of time that would other wise have been wasted.
The CKTV News is a show that the students of CKTV put on everyday except Wednesday. I think that the morning announcements are great. This is because I get to teach new students what they need to do and I have always like the announcements. The new bell schedule has changed it a little, which is a minor drawback.
What really makes the announcements awesome is getting to teach new students. For a little while when I was younger, I used to want to be a teacher. My kindergarten teacher started this career dream when I was in her class and was her teachers assistant, sort of, and I liked it. It was because It was because I liked learning and it just felt right to help other people learn. Teaching during the announcements is just like that. The rewarding felling that you get when your team does a good job on the morning announcements also is another reason why I like teaching beginners on the morning announcements.
I always like working the morning announcements, even before I got to teach new students. I always felt really cool working with the TriCaster and the cameras. It made me feel really smart. It also is really nice to come to the library in the morning and put on a show for the whole school to see. It also gives you a tiny adrenaline rush because what you are doing is being televised for 900 of your peers all around the school to see, and all the things you do right and wrong will be seen all over school.
While is still like doing them, the bell schedule has messed them up a little bit. We used to say what would be for lunch and wiki because the announcements used to be the first thing once you got into school, but it isn't any more. For the "A" team, it plays after wiki and right before lunch, but for the "B" team, it plays after wiki and lunch, so when they say what is for lunch, they would already know because they already ate. It also doesn't play on Wednesdays at all. This is because there is no advisory.
All in all, I still really like working the morning announcements, especially because I get to teach new people. Even though the bell schedule change has messed it up a little bit, I'm not going to let that stop me from enjoying the CKTV News.
My name is Ben B. and I am a third year student in the CKTV Media Productions class. On this page, I'll be posting two blogs every week. Have fun reading!
