#GetItDone

Laziness is everywhere. Laziness also spread like wild fire. Because of all the laziness floating around it's easy to get caught up in it,but it's important to remember that being lazy can have dire consequences. To combat this laziness spread, I personally vow to clean up equipment at school, not procrastinate, and do chores at home.

I think one of the hardest places hit by this lazy epidemic is school. Emidio were allowed to take home equipment to femme and when students bring it back to school, they sometimes leave it on the table and forget to put it away. There are two main reasons why this is a bad thing. The first reason is because there are multiple groups of people that need to use the equipment, and if one person doesn't put it back another group who might need it will have a hard time finding it. Things can become pretty hectic if you're in a rush to go to an interview and you cannot find equipment because some people did not put it away. Chaos will almost always follow when a student is looking for equipment that isn't in the right place and have a limited amount of time. The second reason why leaving equipment out is bad is because it creates clutter. When clutter builds up it's easier for accidents to happen. Leaving the cameras out on a table makes it easy for someone to inadvertently knock it off the table and break it, and cameras are not cheap to replace. Both of these things, broken equipment and chaos, could be prevented if someone put the equipment away, so what I have been doing and will continue to do is help my classmates out and put away the equipment. Every morning (that I remember) I go into the room and check for equipment that has been left out. If I find a bag that has not been unpacked I ask if anybody is still using it and if they say no then I put it away.

Another way that school is hit by the laziness epidemic is through procrastination. Procrastination is a form of laziness because when you need to do something and you were too lazy to do it, you put it off for another time. The next time it is brought to your attention, you're still too lazy to do it so you put it off yet again. If you do this again and again you fall into the cycle of procrastination. Procrastination can have many repercussions such as not turning in your work, or turning in work that is not your best quality. I personally will make an effort to procrastinate less.

The third way that I will try to be less lazy is do chores at home. My parents often asked me to do things and I don't feel like doing them so I just don't. This makes them very upset, and is the reason why my room is not clean. If I stop being lazy and do the things my parents asked the first time they asked me, they would not only be happier but our house will be cleaner.

Because laziness is all around us, I'm trying to take a step against it. To do this I will clean up camera equipment in school even if it's not mine. I also will no longer procrastinate and do things my parents asked me the first time they ask me instead of not doing it and driving them crazy. I hope that you will follow my example and try to fight against laziness as well.

Vagabond

The other day I was watching a few videos by my favorite Vimeo account called The Animation Workshop. The Animation Workshop posts a lot of short animated videos that are all really good. I started watching this video called vagabond and it really intrigued me. The animation is incredible and the sound effects were amazing, but that wasn't what interested me. It was the story. This video was about an interpretation of how society is just speeding up and people aren't stopping to smell the roses. The only person who seems not to get caught up in his business is the main character, and the video is about a short adventure that he has. I posted the video below. Enjoy!!

Fourth Quarter Project

Fourth quarter is almost her so its about time to start thinking of what we would like to do for fourth quarter. This fourth quarter I would like to do the STN Recap video.  For the STN Recap video, if I was able to do it, I would draw up a five step outline, maybe film a few interviews with people before they went on the trip, and then make a list of the b-roll shots I would need on the trip.

The first thing that I would do if I was able to do the STN Recap would be to draw up a five step outline. The five step outline is basically the frame work for my video. If I do not get that done, then I can't start with the other steps of getting my project done. If I get to do the STN Recap, then my five step outline will be done by next week Tuesday.

The next thing that I will do for my fourth quarter project is film a couple of interviews before we go on the trip. This can help because I would not only have the the students talking about their experience on the trip, but also how they feel waiting for the trip to come around.

The third and final thing that I can do before the trip is make a list of the b-roll shots that I should take before I go on the trip. This list will help me because when I go on the trip, I will have shots of the people that will talk in my video. That way, I will have enough b-roll when I start editing and putting my video together.

For my fourth quarter project, I would like to do the STN Recap video. If I am able to do the video, I would start my project now. The first thing that I would do is get the five step outline approved. After that is approved, I would then go on to film a couple of interviews before the trip. After that, I would then make a list off all the b-roll that I should take on the trip.

Roommate Wanted - Dead or Alive

The other day I was going through the staff picks on Vimeo and I came across a really interesting video. The video was called Roommate Wanted - Dead or Alive. I think that it is animated through clay-mation. This means that everything that you see was made out of clay. This is an incredible feat. There are a ton of small little items and details. This would take a really long time to make and a lot of patience. Every time they move, a new shot is taken. With a movie this fluid, they would have had to take way more shots than I could have, especially because the video was seven and a half minutes long. The story itself was also cool, it had an interesting plot that made you want to watch it till the end. The ending also was really nice and made you feel happy for them. I won't spoil it anymore for you guys. Watch it below!

iPads

This week we got our iPad. We usually get one every year in media to get our work done even easier. On the iPad, I can do my blogs anytime I want and it is a much more portable way to bring around with you than carrying around all the printed papers or a laptop. On our iPad, we can also do our blogs on the trip. I don't have a phone so the iPad would be the only way for me to do the trip blogs.

STN Practice Recap

Last week we had our second STN Practice. This practice was a lot of fun. The topic given this time was a little bit easier to think of a movie trailer for. The topic that we were given was "Busted". I also think that we did better as a team. I think that we did better because we finished earlier, came up with an idea earlier, and we had a better video that made more sense than our last one.

The first reason why I think that we did better this STN Practice was because we finished the movie trailer earlier. Last time we finished the movie trailer a few minutes before the deadline. This time we finished about fifteen minutes before the deadline. This may not seem like a lot of time, but during STN, it may take a few minutes to run to the turn in booth and if you wait till the last minute, you may run as fast as you can, but if you are a second late, they will not count your entry. And this happened to a lot of people, the editing room was full of sobbing contestants last year.

The second reason why we did better this time was because we finished our idea earlier. Last practice we finished our idea later than we wanted so we had less time than we would have liked to film, so our filming was slightly rushed. This time we finished the movie trailer idea earlier so we didn't have to rush to finish filming this time. This caused our shots to be much better.

The third reason why this STN Practice was better than the last was because our video made more sense. Last time we tried to show a girl that was lying to herself and it didn't really turn out that good. This time I thought that we successfully showed what we wanted to so our video was better.

So all in all, I thought that this Practice was better in every way. The video and idea was finished earlier while the video itself seemed more coherent. I hope that our next STN Practice will be even better!

Yesterday, we had our second STN Practice. This practice was a lot of fun and I think that we definitely improved on our movie trailer. Our video stuck to the topic better and I think that the movie trailer itself made a  lot more sense. Our movie trailer video was about this hacker who goes into other people's computer to download their files, and he gets caught. Our topic for this movie trailer was called Busted. Watch it below!

Improving Practices

This Saturday, we will have our second STN Practice. I have thought of a few things that I can do to make our team better. These three things are have the equipment packed, watch movie trailers, and remember to bring a flash drive.

The first thing that I will do to help my team this weekend is personally make sure that we have all the equipment packed. Last practice everything was not all ready to go, so we spent about ten minutes getting everything together. Ten minutes is not a lot, but when it comes to STN, every second counts.

The second thing that I will do to make my STN practice better is watch numerous movie trailers. Last practice, all that we could think about was action movie trailers and none of our ideas fit the topic "The Good Lie" well. If I watch a bunch of different movie trailers for a variety of videos, there's a greater chance that I will be able to help my group by contributing an idea.

The last thing that I will do is bring an SD card. Last practice, I forgot to bring an SD card. Luckily one of my other team mates brought one, but if they didn't, we'd be in a lot of trouble. This practice, I will make sure I bring one.

Those are a few of the things that I plan to do this STN practice. If do all of these things, we as a team will be better prepared and probably have a better video. These things include having equipment set aside, watching videos for ideas, and bringing personal items from home to help film.

DJI Ronin

A while back, our class bought the DJI Ronin. It is truly a fascinating setup. The Ronin can automatically calibrate it self and it ensures amazingly steady shots. I got to see one of my class mates use it to film and it was incredibly. He was running and shaking and moving, but all that you could see was one great steady shot. He ran with it and the camera looked liked it was gliding. It was amazing. The only downside that I know of is it's a little bit heavy, but the shots make it worth it. Here's are a few films by DJI. One is about the Ronin and the other is a film shot with the Ronin

The Domino Effect

Everything that you do has consequences. These in turn affect different things and it can start a whole chain of either good or bad events. One of the times that this has happened to me is when I got up late, which caused us to leave late, and then I was late for the morning announcements

I slept in late because I turned off my alarm but went back to bed. I slept for what felt like five minutes, but turned out to be thirty. I had to scramble to get all of my stuff together for school. I rushed to eat my cereal and woke up my sister late. She had to get ready as well. We were both scrambling around the house trying to get ready for school.

Because we were rushing around the house, we did not leave on time. We left the house about twenty minutes late. This means we left the house at about 7:20. We usually try to leave the house at around seven so that we are not late for the morning announcements.

Because we did leave late, I was late for the morning announcements. We are supposed to be there at 7:15 so that we can practice for the morning announcements. I was ten minutes late. In this time, we could have done another practice. It was not horrible that I was late though because the announcers had not arrived either, so we were still waiting on them.

This was just one of my experiences with the domino effect. I was late for the morning announcements because we did not leave the house on time because I woke up late. This experience that taught me that everything has consequences.
